Alaskan Cruise

Embark on a journey to Alaska, where icy glaciers, majestic bears, and breathtaking landscapes await. While these iconic images are certainly part of the allure, an Alaskan cruise offers a tapestry of experiences beyond imagination. The three main reasons people visit Alaska are to see wildlife, glaciers, and mountains (specifically Denali). Let's delve more into what you can expect on an extraordinary Alaskan voyage.

Encounter Wildlife Wonders

Prepare for encounters with Alaska's diverse wildlife. Beyond the famed bears, you may spot elusive deer, exotic seabirds, graceful moose, majestic bald eagles, and the mighty humpback whales. From the deck of your cruise ship, witness nature's spectacle unfold before your eyes. Alaska’s Big Five include bears, moose, caribou, Dall sheep, and wolves. Much wildlife can be seen near the shore from the ship, but other animals such as moose and wolves are further inland. We often recommend adding a land package on to an Alaskan cruise for the opportunity to explore Denali National Park and ensure more wildlife sightings. Only a lucky few usually experience seeing wolves as these pack animals avoid humans as much as they can. Two of the best places to view wolves in Alaska are Katmai National Park and Denali National Park. There are also certain times of year, that certain wildlife are more active and easier to spot.

Explore Nature's Bounty

Alaska boasts an abundance of natural wonders. With over 34,000 miles of coastline (that’s more than than the rest of the United Stated combined!), 664 named glaciers, 3 million lakes, 3,000+ rivers, and more than 100 volcanoes. Each moment unveils a new marvel. Traverse serene lakes, take a glacier walk, navigate winding rivers, and marvel at the rugged beauty of volcanic landscapes. You won’t be short of landscapes to explore in Alaska!

We always recommend cruise itineraries that enter Glacier Bay National Park. Glacier Bay has more than 50 named glaciers, as well as two major arms: East Arm and West Arm. You’ll experience calving action and wildlife galore. Most ships head up the West Arm toward the Margerie Glacier. It advances and impressive 12 to 14 feet per day and calves frequently. Park rangers actually come on board certain ships and give talks as you spend the day in the park. Not all cruise lines enter Glacier Bay National Park, as there is a limited number of vessels allowed in each day. We know the cruise lines that enter the park the most, and love matching our clients to these itineraries! Another way to explore the glaciers up close is on a glacier hike or walk. Mendenhall Glacier is one of the most famous glaciers to check out. Other glaciers are immaculate by air. Flightseeing is a very common way to experience the glaciers as it gives you a good feel for how massive and expansive they are.

Family-Friendly Adventure

Contrary to popular belief, Alaskan cruises cater to families, offering a blend of excitement and education. Witness multi-generational bonding as parents and grandparents share the wonders of "The Last Frontier" with their children. Onboard enrichment activities include whale-watching programs, educational sessions on glaciers, and engaging sing-a-longs for the little ones. Alaskan cruises can be the perfect blend of family fun, nature, and science. They can also be a welcomed change from the usual beach vacations.

If you don’t want to bring the whole family, Alaskan cruises are an excellent option for groups of friends as well. There’s usually something for everyone on Alaskan cruise itineraries.

Weather Insights: Layer Up

While snow may be expected, Alaska surprises with its varied climate. Depending on the season, rain showers are more likely than snowfall. Embrace layering with lightweight clothing, waterproof jackets, and warm accessories. Prepare for extended daylight hours with sunsets as late as 10 pm and sunrises as early as 3 am. In the summer there are even days that have 24 hours of solid daylight! Don’t forget our sleep mask to ensure a good night’s rest. Luxurious Staterooms

Indulge in the ultimate comfort with a balcony stateroom, offering unparalleled views of glaciers and wildlife. Of course you can always be on deck to view glaciers and wildlife, but there’s nothing quite as phenomenal as the views from your own private balcony while sipping hot cocoa under a cozy blanket! Additionally, the Northern Lights can be seen during certain times of year when the condition are right. It’s much more comfortable to see this natural wonder from your own space in your robe, rather than trudging out on deck in the dark. Experience the magic of Alaska from the intimacy of your private sanctuary.

Enriching Excursions

Maximize your adventure with carefully curated excursions, from glacier hikes to whale-watching expeditions. Each excursion offers a unique glimpse into the region's natural wonders. Explore pristine wilderness, encounter majestic wildlife, and immerse yourself in the rich culture of Alaska's indigenous communities. Whether you're seeking adventure or relaxation, there's an excursion tailored to your interests and preferences. Set out on an expedition that will leave you with cherished memories to last a lifetime. Many people consider Alaska a bucket list destination; and will often only visit once during their lifetime. If this is you, you’ll absolutely want to make the most of your Alaska experience by planning some excursions.

Serene and Educational Atmosphere

Alaskan cruises offer a tranquil escape, blending relaxation with enrichment. Unlike bustling beach cruises, expect a serene ambiance conducive to learning and reflection. Immerse yourself in the region's rich history, culture, and natural wonders, returning home rejuvenated and enlightened. Avid cruisers can attest, the atmosphere of a typical Caribbean itinerary is very vibrant and slightly rowdy. Alaskan cruises are equally as fun, but have an environment for taking in your surroundings and learning as you sail along. Alaskan experiences are truly in a league of their own.

Capture Unforgettable Moments

Prepare to be mesmerized by Alaska's splendor, capturing memories that will last a lifetime. From awe-inspiring landscapes to close encounters with wildlife, every moment is a photo opportunity waiting to be seized. Be sure to bring along extra digital storage space for all your pictures.

Remember, not all memories are in the form of digital content. Don’t forget to immerse yourself in the moment and really absorb the majesty before you. Alaska is a trip to cherish for a lifetime.
